Harmeet, Harjot and Manpreet have been best friends since high school. We were some of the few kids at our school who could speak Punjabi fluently. We had lots of friends who had grandparents from Punjab who didn't know much English, so they struggled to communicate at home.
We realized not everyone had the same chance to learn Punjabi like we did by going to Khalsa and Sikh Academy schools where it was taught. We noticed our mother tongue was in danger of disappearing as fewer young people spoke it. This inspired us to join together to keep our heritage, culture and language alive
by teaching Punjabi to the next generation.

Harpreet's passion for Punjabi started early, learning her first words as a toddler from her family. Throughout her school years at Sikh Academy, she embraced every opportunity to learn Punjabi, consistently excelling in her courses. Outside of school, Harpreet devoted time to helping other young students practice their Punjabi and understand Gurbani. Her volunteer work earned her a scholarship from Sikh Academy. Harpreet felt a deep connection to her mother tongue, remembering Guru Nanak's gift of the Punjabi language to the Sikh people. This motivated her to work hard and achieve top marks on the Punjabi 12 exam. In the Future, Harpreet still reads Punjabi daily, teaches her siblings, and dreams of preserving Punjabi as the living language of the Sikhs. She feels blessed to have Punjabi as an integral part of her identity.
